About this unit
This unit is about producing interpretive media such as printed material (e.g. leaflets, posters), displays, signs, trails and audio/ audio visual interpretations. You must be able to prepare briefs, for the internal and external production of interpretive media, monitoring the production and siting/distribution of the completed items, and evaluating the effectiveness of different kinds of interpretive media.
This unit is for environmental conservation workers who have responsibility for producing, or overseeing the production of, interpretive media.

Element EC27.1 Prepare briefs for producing interpretive media
What you must be able to do:
- prepare briefs for interpretive media which meet organisational, legal and site requirements
- identify interpretive media that are appropriate for the intended audience and the interpretation objectives
- accurately identify resource requirements for realising the briefs
- prepare briefs that can be realised within allocated budget and resources
- propose suitable alternatives where appropriate
- seek any necessary information and advice from appropriate sources
- present briefs in a form and level of detail suitable for further specialist design work to be carried out if required
- present briefs within agreed timescales

Element EC27.2 Produce and monitor the use of interpretive media
What you must be able to do:
- produce interpretive media to meet any agreed timescales and delivery dates
- agree any proposed changes to the production plan with the appropriate people
- monitor production progress regularly against agreed resource allocations and timescales
- ensure the interpretive media are produced within planned budget and timescales
- ensure the interpretive media produced match the design brief
- ensure that site-based interpretive media are located in accordance with the original brief
- ensure that printed materials are distributed in accordance with the original brief
- promptly refer any problems with the production and use of interpretive media to the appropriate people

Element EC27.3 Evaluate the effectiveness of interpretive media
What you must be able to do:
- ensure that all evaluation criteria are clearly established and agreed with the appropriate people
- use evaluation methods that are appropriate to the situation and the customers
- carry out the evaluation in a manner which yields accurate and impartial data
- accurately record evaluation data
- ensure that evaluation results are related to the evaluation criteria and based on accurate analysis of the available data
- draw conclusions on the effectiveness of interpretive media based on evaluation criteria and supported by the results of the evaluation
- present results and conclusions to the appropriate people in an agreed format and within agreed timescales
