Overall purpose of placement
Worcestershire Wildlife Consultancy (WWC) is looking for a graduate to train as an ecological consultancy assistant. WWC undertakes a range of commercial projects for a wide variety of clients including private individuals, public bodies, non governmental organisations, development companies and utilities. The placement will work with the various consultancy team members assisting them in undertaking habitat and protected species surveys, throughout the Midlands, but predominantly in Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Warwickshire. In addition, the post-holder will be involved in a number of tasks related to managing land for wildlife on both publicly and privately owned land including monitoring and practical habitat management works.
This post will be based at WWC offices at Lower Smite Farm, Smite Hill, Hindlip, Worcester (the same location as Worcestershire Wildlife Trust).
Main responsibilities & areas of learning:

- To undertake Phase 1 habitat surveys and assist with protected species surveys in particular, bat, great crested newt, slow-worm and badger surveys on a variety of rural and urban sites.
- To assisting the consultancy ecologists in the above surveys undertaking daytime and evening/night time site visits. Time off in lieu will be given for evening/night-time work this should not exceed 3 evenings per week.
- To assist in the practical management and monitoring (botanical surveys) of the roadside verge nature reserves throughout Worcestershire and to assist Worcestershire Wildlife Trust conservation volunteers in practical tasks on selected wildlife trust nature reserves.
- To obtain ecological data from national databases and relevant county biological records centres, analyse and collate to inform the breadth of the wildlife survey to be undertaken on any given site.
- To assist with the production of professional reports under the supervision of the relevant consultancy ecologist.
- To liaise with other professional ecologists within local government and statutory agencies such as Natural England.
- Respond to general enquiries from commercial clients regarding the services offered and availability of WWC to undertake parcels of work.
- To undertake Continuing Professional Development as identified in a Personal Development Plan.
- To undertake any other duties, as requested by the Consultancy Manager, commensurate with the ability of the post holder and the aims of WWC.
