Overall purpose of placement
East Devon District Council’s Countryside Service is responsible for managing and developing access to some of East Devon’s most special heritage countryside sites. The Natural Heritage Trainee will work alongside the Council’s Countryside team who work across a range of disciplines covering education provision, reserve management and practical conservation and biodiversity recording fieldwork.
Main responsibilities & areas of learning:

- Develop, coordinate and deliver a range of heritage educational activities on the District Council’s Local Nature Reserves.
- Assist (and later take a lead on) projects which further the community liaison ambitions of the Countryside Service by developing the community network, organising volunteer conservation tasks and heritage community events and maintaining communications with volunteers.
- Assist with the delivery of various practical aspects of the Axe Wetlands Project.
- Perform practical habitat, access and biodiversity survey tasks.
- Develop interpretation and access products for the Local Nature Reserves including development of a website.
- Plan and deliver heritage public events and other activities (e.g. illustrated talks and public events with the Education Ranger.
- Develop and deliver a personal heritage project in liaison with the Education Ranger.
