Overall
purpose of placement
This post presents a unique training
opportunity for the right individual to undertake
training and develop skills and knowledge in order
to further a career in conservation and land management.
The post holder will (with support and training)
lead and motivate a team of volunteers and trainees
to deliver a number of practical conservation projects
and contracts at key nature reserves and local heritage sites in and around Sheffield.
This post will be based at Sheffield Wildlife Trust’s
Headquarters at 37 Stafford Road, Sheffield.
Main
responsibilities & areas of learning:
Your application should clearly illustrate your potential to carry out these responsibilities and meet the Trainee Specification.
- To assist in the practical management of Sheffield
Wildlife Trust’s 9 nature reserves and other
key sites of natural heritage importance including
areas of woodland, moorland and unimproved pasture.
- To deliver (with support and training) habitat
management works and other practical conservation
tasks (including highly skilled tasks such as
hedge laying, drystone walling and coppicing)
across
Sheffield.
- To undertake risk and health and safety assessments
for practical conservation works and organise
practical conservation tasks.
- To order materials and equipment required in
delivery of practical projects and ensure
implementation in line with specifications
and site plans.
- To undertake and complete a programme of
level 3 training (mostly work based learning
and
portfolio building) with support from a
mentor.
- To promote SWT
and membership of the Trust at all opportunities.
- To supervise volunteers working on conservation
projects.
- To ensure all work is undertaken to
SWT's policies (e.g. child welfare,
environmental
and health
and safety policies).
- To undertake any other duties, as
requested by your Line Manager,
