Who can apply?

The LEMUR project bursary scheme is aimed at individuals who want to work within the environmental sector, but who lack essential experience.

To be considered for a LEMUR project bursary you MUST;

• be committed to gaining a career in UK nature conservation;
• be able to take up a full-time placement for 9 months and work toward three units of either an NVQ (Level 3) Environmental Conservation or OCN (Level 3) Biological Assessment Skills.
• demonstrate how you meet the trainee specification (see below).

Please note:

• Though we encourage and support our trainees in applying for jobs we do urge applicants with other major commitments (e.g. travel, courses etc) within the next 11 months not to apply.
• You should be aware of your own personal responsibility when it comes to completing the tasks that will be asked of you. There is likely to be a question on this subject at the interviews.
• Due to the nature of some of the placements some posts may carry a requirement for an Enhanced Disclosure under the provisions of the Police Act 1997. The Trust will require your permission to carry out a disclosure.

Trainee Specification

To be successful at gaining an interview, you must illustrate clearly how you meet both the following trainee specification and the responsibilities of the training placement you have chosen. Your interview will assess your suitability further.

1. An enthusiasm, commitment and passion to move into a career in UK nature conservation
   
2. Ability to use computer information technology.
   
3. You must either:
   - be able to achieve 3 units of a level 3 qualification, or;
   - have a minimum of a level 2 environmental based qualification or equivalent, or:
   - have 12 months equivalent level 2 experience.
   
4. Good communication skills: written and verbal.
   
5. Interpersonal skills: Able to work with a wide range of backgrounds and ages.
   
6. Able to work alone and as part of a team.
   
7. Willingness to work to tight deadlines and out of office hours.
   
8. Organisational skills: Ability to prioritise and organise own individual work programmes.
   
9. Willingness to travel both within and outside the region of your host organisation.
   
10. An enthusiasm and eagerness to work toward gaining three units of a level 3 qualification.

Application procedure

1. All applications and queries must be made to the Herefordshire Nature Trust and should arrive by Tuesday 29th January 2008.
2. Within your application form be sure to specify clearly which bursary placement you are applying for along with your preferred 2nd and 3rd choices.
3. Interviews will be held during the week of 25th to 29th February 2008.
4. Successful candidates will start on Monday 14th April 2008 having already found accommodation in your chosen ‘hub’ area. Please note that the starting date is not negotiable, so if you are not available to start with us until a later date you should not apply.
5. Due to the number of applicants we will not be able to reply to everyone. If you have not heard anything by 7 working days after the application deadline, please assume you have not been successful.
6. Please note that this will be the third and final intake of placements on this project.
